He was arrested last December and held without charge until he was brought to trial in July 2009.

During his time in prison there were widespread reports of prisoner abuse by guards against Sebby and fellow prisoners including Buchtar Tabuni, Yusak Pakage and Filep Karma. In January, all the Papuan political prisoners in Abepura Prison were refused food and water for 3 days, leading to appeals by organisations including Human Rights Watch, the Asian Human Rights Commission and Amnesty International.

On behalf of Sebby we would like to send our thanks to everyone who has helped campaign for his release.
Many other political prisoners including Buchtar Tabuni, Victor Yiemo, Yusak Pakage and Filep Karma remain in jail, so please write to the Indonesian Prime Minister and the Indonesian embassy in your country requesting their immediate release, as their arrest and continuing imprisonment is a contravention of their rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. Also request that the torture and violence directed against prisoners in jails in West Papua, recorded by Amnesty International be investigated, and stopped.
