At least 6,000 soldiers and police officers will be deployed to maintain security during the visit of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to Papua scheduled to start Friday.

Out of the total personnel, 3,260 would be soldiers, Cendrawasih Military XVII Commander Maj. Gen. Fransen Siahaan said in Jayapura on Wednesday.

The deployment of the security officers would be backed up by the Indonesian Military headquarters with helicopters, Hercules airplanes and warships.

It will include five helicopters and two warships -- the KRI Sultan Nuku No. 373 and KRI Sultan Slamet 352.

"We're ready to maintain security during the President's visit to Papua," Siahaan said as quoted by Antara news agency.

He hoped there would no group that intended to hinder the President's second visit to Papua. The first visit was carried out in December last year.

"The security officers will not hesitate to take any stern measures against anyone who wants to block the visit," he said.
