As Christmas approaches, we are mindful of the situation in West Papua and the growing strength of the call for independence. Earlier this month at least 6000 people gathered to mark human rights day in the highland town of Wamena. These kind of large demonstrations are becoming more common. Sadly, this year has also seen more arrests by the Indonesian authorities than ever before; between April and July more than 4000 West Papuans were arrested in connection with peaceful pro-independence demonstrations.

We want to support West Papuans at this crucial time, by continuing to raise public awareness about their plight and lobbying to gain political support for an internationally supervised vote on independence. However, we are facing challenges because of limited financial resources.


Could you help us to support West Papua's struggle with a monthly donation?


We are running an appeal to find 200 new monthly donors by 31st December. We are so grateful to those who have already responded: 19 people have signed up, raising us over £2000 per year. However, we are still a way off our target.
