This paper revolves around; firstly, the political struggle in Papua between the pro-democracy groups that consist of civil society organisations (CSO), individuals within Catholic churches, and indigenous people association of one of Papuan ethnic groups
vis à vis the Indonesian government, its military units and the Freeport Indonesia Company (Freeport). Secondly, the paper discusses the emergence of new and old agents who make use of issues related to the Papuan demand for independence. The latter thereafter dominate the popular political theme and gain spontaneous popular supports.
