TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono arrived in Wasior, Wondama Bay, West Papua on October14, 2010 at 06.00 AM. The President and his group were transported by Sultan Hasanuddin Ship to Kuri Pasai Port in Wasior, Wondama Bay.

After listening to the Wondama Bay’s government explanation concerning the latest condition on the flooding, the President immediately went to some of the sites and visited the refugee camps. “The President has arrived and is visiting the flood locations, said Piter Lambey, the Wondama Bay government Assistant I.

Coming along are Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi, Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, Indonesian Armed Forces Commanded Admiral Agus Suhartono, State Secretary Minister Sudi Silalahi and Health Minister Endang R Sedyaningsih.

The President’s visit was strictly guarded by the Indonesian Armed Forces and the Police in Wasior. Four Indonesian Navy’s ships are on stand-by at Kuri Pasai Port, located 5 kilometer off Wasior City.

The victims welcomed the president, who promised to rebuild Wasior. “The President’s promise is to rebuild areas affected by the disaster,” Piter said.

The president is scheduled to head back to Jakarta this afternoon.

Floods struck Wasior on Monday last week, after the waters of a lake measuring a few hectares inundated Wondiboi. The water from the mountain carried woods and rocks, passing Angris and Kyot Rivers in the areas. The flood damaged the roads and bridges within minutes. flood also inundated Wasior City, destroying people’s homes and public facilities.
