Papua province wants to generate Rp 10 trillion (Rp 1.1 billion) in local revenue over the next ten years, according to Governor Barnabas Suebu.

“The achievement will reduce our dependence on the state budget,” Barnabas said in Jakarta on Monday, adding that local revenue comprised 5 percent of Papua’s provincial budget, with the remainder funded by the central government.

To meet targets, the administration might build a hydroelectric power plant this year, Barnabas said.

“We expect to raise Rp 2 trillion in local revenue from the power plant,” he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com news portal.

The project would operate for the next three years, Barnabas said.
