As you are probably aware the Papua New Guinea government has recently been targeting
West Papuan refugees who have settled on the PNG side of the border. Over 150 people have been rounded up, houses have been burnt and people have been
detained for two weeks. Now many of the refugees are being moved to East Awin where they will have to rebuild their homes in a malaria rife area. Others
are threatened with being sent back to Indonesia where they will almost certainly face
severe consequences. Please help support these refugees and show your opposition to the PNG government's
direct targeting of West Papuan refugees. On Monday and Tuesday (14th and 15th Feb) we will hold a coordinated phone in to the PNG embassy in London.
Please make a phone call on one of these days to the embassy and raise your concerns with them. We will follow this with a demonstration at the embassy on
Tuesday afternoon at 13.00, please try to attend. PNG Embassy: 14 Waterloo Place London SW1Y 4AR Tel: 020 7930 0922/ 0926 In the meantime please also phone the Operation Commander in Vanimo, Vincen Fokas: + 675 73130885 and ask him to release all the refugees immediately.
