Theindonesiatoday.com - Genting Oil, member of Genting Group of Malaysia, may have found significant gas resource in Kasuri Block, West Papua, spokesperson of BPMigas said.

"The exploration drilling well Asap-IX reached the depth of 4610 meter with potential gas flow of 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD)," said Elan Biantoro, head of PR at the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Body (BPMigas) as quoted by Detikfinance.com Wednesday (Feb 16).

The gas flow was taken from drill-stem tests in three zones of 4306-4310 meters with 23 MMSCFD, 4253-4269 meters for 41 MMSCFD, and 4233-4243 meters for 36 MMSCFD.

Elan said the gas potential is still under continuous study and that further explorations will be made. "For this year, Genting Oil will conduct 3D seismic surveys and drill four exploration wells," Elan said.

Kasuri PSC, signed by Genting in 2008, is located onshore the Bomberai Peninsula in West Papua and is adjacent to the giant gas discoveries that are now being developed. The block surrounds and includes the Tangguh LNG Plant, where gas from the immediate vicinity can be processed.
