Former Papua People's Assembly (MRP) speaker Agus Alue Alua reportedly passed away Thursday at Dian Harapan Hospital in Jayapura.

Agus, who was re-elected as an MRP member for a second term, although not inaugurated, died after he was admitted to hospital. The cause of death is not yet clear.

His family members and colleagues were seen at the hospital, Antara reported.

Agus was known for the policies he issued while serving as MRP speaker, such as a decree specifying that Papua local administration heads and their deputies must be from the region.
