                                                        CONDEMNATION OF VIOLENCE IN TIMIKA

We, the Military Council of West Papua National Liberation Army strongly condemn the shooting and violence against civilians in Timika in Southern West Papua (Indonesian New Guinea) on 6 April 2011.

We wish to reiterate our position that since our First Highest Convention held on 24 July 2006 we reject violence and fully support all peaceful efforts to bring about a lasting political solution to the West Papuan Conflict.

Violence against innocent people and human rights abuses that are continuing for almost half a century will never stop under the Indonesian regime. Violence is a State policy to quell West Papuan resistance and demand for self determination and independence.

We call on the International community and the United Nations to persuade Indonesia to end all these violence and negotiate with our resistance organizations for a peaceful solution.  The West Papua National Coalition for Liberation made a number of requests to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on behalf of the resistance movement. But instead of heading the requests for peaceful solution the Indonesian Military and Militias are provoking more violence and committing more human rights abuses.

We further call on the United Nations to send a Fact Finding Mission to record all the serious human rights abuses committed by the Indonesian State against our people.  We also call on the International Community and the United Nations to persuade Indonesia to withdraw all its organic and non organic forces from West Papua.  They serve no other purpose than violence. Instead we need International humanitarian organizations to provide their services to our people.

Thank you for your attention.
