Papua province will join hands with the Brisbane city administration and the University of Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, to promote education, poverty eradication and environmental preservation.

Papua Governor Barnabas Suebu said the cooperation, called the Papuan Business Forum, was signed in Brisbane on Thursday.

"We hope we can follow up on the cooperation," said Barnabas as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Sunday.

Indonesian ambassador to Australia Primo Alui Joelianto said the agreement would also pave the way for new investments from Australia in Papua.

“Papua's big challenges are fighting poverty and creating jobs,” Primo said.

Meanwhile, Queensland's special representative to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, Bob Quinn, said his administration would actively cooperate with regions in Asia to improve economy, tourism and environmental preservation.

Papua education agency head James Modouw said that, under the cooperation scheme, 74 teachers from Papua would receive three years of training to teach in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
