Jayapura. Three people were killed and at least five
suffered serious injuries during another round of deadly attacks in
Jayapura, Papua, on Monday.
Taking place in the Nafri village,
the assailants blocked vehicles passing by the location and immediately
attacked the drivers and passengers using weapons, which included
machetes, axes and guns.
Two passengers of a Toyotal Hilux DS were hacked to death, while another
passenger of a taxi was killed separately.
Another victim was a
member of the military, Private Dominikus Kerap.
The assailants
also ambushed a public transportation vehicle, shooting the doors of the
car before attacking the passengers.
At least five of the
passengers reportedly suffered serious wounds, including gunshot
injuries.
A Bintang Kejora (Morning Star) Flag, a symbol of the
region’s separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM), had been raised in the
area.
The victims are being treated in Abepura Hospital.
Papua
Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Wachyono said that police are still
processing the crime scene.
