MAKASSAR: Indonesian Military chief Adm. Agus Suhartono says the TNI will not intervene in the police investigation of the death of a soldier assigned to the Cendrawasih Military Command.

“Law enforcement is directly carried out by the police. There has been a legal violation and the police will deal with it. The military will provide assistance,” Agus said during a Ramadhan tour with National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo in Makassar on Wednesday.

The slain soldier, Capt. Tasman, was fatally stabbed by two assailants last week in Yabansai sub-district, Jayapura, Papua.

Timur said that the police were still developing the case to find a motive for the killing and to find the perpetrators.

“We are at the moment following legal procedures. We will investigate, which will lead to the arrest of the culprits, whom we will scrutinize according to law,” he said.
