Police in Papua have arrested two fugitives who were allegedly involved in the deadly shooting incident at Nafri village, Jayapura, last month.

“It is true that we have arrested two people who are alleged perpetrators of recent violence in Jayapura,” Papua Police spokesman, Sr. Comr. Wahyono, said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The suspects’ initials are “PK” and “EK”, Wahyono said.

He added that, although police have made these arrests, they are still developing their investigation into the case.

The police also said that the incident, which resulted in the deaths of four people, was simply a criminal act and had nothing to do with the separatist group, the Free Papua Organization (OPM).

This statement contradicts an earlier statement by police that the OPM lay behind the attack.
