TEMPO Interactive, JAYAPURA: The latest figures from the bureau of statistics show that Papua is the poorest province in Indonesia.

“Around 36.8 percent or 980,000 of a total 2.8 million people in Papua are poor,” said Ali Said from the Central Bureau of Statistics’ (BPS) Analysis and Statistic Development Directorate, yesterday.

According to Ali, the measurement was based on the components of food, which is equal to 2,100 kkl per capita per day. The basic food need is represented by 52 commodities, including rice.
