Papua Police have announced doubts over a recent statement issued by a group calling itself the Papua Region Command (Kodap) X, to take responsibility for the death of Adj. Comr. Dominggus Awes two weeks ago.

Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Wachyono said police didn’t have any convincing evidence of the group's existence.

“We still questioning whether Kodap X exists,” he said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Wachyono added that to date police still assumed that those who shot Dominggus were merely criminals and not separatists.

He argued that the people hadn't carried any weapons when attacking Dominggus, but had just seized a firearm and shot him with it.
