The National Police announced on Thursday that it had arrested twelve suspects for their alleged involvement in the Free Papua Movement (OPM).

“We successfully arrested 12 people believed to be members of the OPM on Tuesday. One suspect, SW, ran away but our men shot and killed him,” National Police spokesman Saud Usman Nasution said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The 12 suspects were allegedly behind the attacks on the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) operational command and food security office in Mulia, Puncak Jaya district.

They were arrested while hiding in a village. Saud said that the police was investigating whether or not residents in the village helped them to hide.

It was not yet clear whether they were also involved in the shooting of the Mulia police chief on Oct. 24.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” Saud said.
