The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) plans to open five branch offices in five different regencies in West Papua next year.

West Papua BNN chief Harun Jitmau said the new offices would be built in Sorong Regency, Sorong City, Manokwari Regency, Bintuni Regency and Raja Ampat Regency.

“We hope to expand our monitoring capabilities to reduce drug smuggling at the regency level and district level,” Harun said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

According to BNN statistics, there were 58 drug cases in West Papua in 2010.
