Following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the west coast of North Sumatra on Saturday morning, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported another strong tremor that rocked Manokwari, West Papua measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale.

The quake struck at 8:16 a.m. with an epicenter located at a depth of 29 kilometers, 83 km southeast of Manokwari.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho confirmed the early report, but added that his agency was verifying it.

There were also no immediate reports of damage. (dmr)
