A German national was shot on a beach off Jayapura, Papua, on Tuesday while he was taking a leisurely walk with his wife.

The 55-year-old Dietmar Pieper was accompanied by his Spanish national wife, Eva Medina, on Tuesday afternoon sightseeing at the Base G seaside when suddenly a man driving a silver car shot him three times.

“The man, who had curly hair and was unshaven abruptly stopped his vehicle near us. He got off the car and shot my husband three times,” Medina said as quoted by Antara news agency.

Pieper was immediately taken to the emergency unit of Jayapura General Hospital to receive medical treatment.

Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. BL Tobing said separately that his men were still searching for the shooter, who he believed was still hiding in the city of Jayapura.

The suspect’s motive is not yet known
