A German man was shot three times while walking on Jayapura beach, Papua on Tuesday. The 55-year-old Pieter Dietmar Helmut was with his Spanish national wife, Medina Pachon, sightseeing at the Base G seashore, when suddenly an unknown man got out of a blue Toyota Avanza and shot him three times.
“The man abruptly stopped his car near Helmut. He got out from the car and shot him in the chest and thigh,” Telda Yakadewa, an eye witness, said.
Helmut was rushed to the Jayapura General Hospital for treatment.
Papua Health Agency head Dr. Joseph Rinta, who operated on Helmut, said that his condition was stable and showing signs of recovery.
Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. BL Tobing said separately that the police were still searching for the attacker, who he believed was still within the city.
