The Papua Police reported on Tuesday that three firearms possessed by officers of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) had been taken by unidentified people in separate occasions.

First Let. Paulinus Logo was on his way to Mewulok District in Puncak Jaya regency on Friday when he was stopped by a group of people, who later robbed him of his pistol. A day later, an rifle belonging to a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer was stolen in Mewulok district.

Brig. Pol. Ferly Fonataba reported his revolver was stolen by a thief who broke into his home in Perumnas IV Jayapura on Tuesday morning.

Papua Police spokesman Comr. Pol. Johannes Nugroho blamed the Papua Liberation Army Front and the Free Papua Movement (TPN/OPM) for the firearm robbery in Mewulok, saying the crime was aimed at disrupting the re-vote process during the regional election.
