An early morning attack on a police post in Lanny Jaya district in
Papua on Tuesday reportedly left two policemen dead and another
missing.
According to Antaranews.com, an unknown number of assailants
attacked the Pirime Police office at around 5 a.m.
The police chief, First. Insp. Tangkupdsi, and a police officer, Second
Brig. Jefry Rumkorem, were shot dead. The whereabouts of a third police
officer, identified as Daniel Makuker, are unknown.
Papua Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. I Gede Sumerta Jaya said
details were still limited.
“I haven't received confirmation
and complete data from there [Pirime Police office]," Sumerta
said.
The incident happened a day after another policeman, a
member of Unurumguay Police, Brig. Gotlif, was attacked while he was
with his family in a car.
According to Vivanews.com, two
perpetrators on a motorcycle intercepted the car. Gotlif emerged from
the car and was hit in the head with a gun. He fell down and one of
the perpetrators shot his right leg and shot the car.
Gede
said that the motive behind the shooting was not yet clear.
