Sorong Police confiscated on Saturday one makeshift gun and around 100 bullets plus traditional weapons from the site of a recent clash in Aimas district, Sorong regency in West Papua.
“The weapons and
bullets were found at the site of Wednesday’s clash between security
personnel and demonstrators who were commemorating the annexation of
Papua into Indonesia on May 1,” Papua Police chief spokesman Sr. Comr. I
Gede Sumerta Jaya said on Sunday.
The clash resulted in the death of two civilians, allegedly from gunshot wounds, and injured five others.
“We
could not determine the cause of the deaths as relatives of the victims
refused autopsies and the bodies have been buried,” Sumerta said.
He
added that the police would meet with the victims’ families to resolve
the dispute, with a local church and Sorong regency administration
mediating the meeting.
