Thanks for signing ETAN's petition opposing the Appeal to Conscience Foundation's award to Indonesia's President SBY. He did come to New York and he did get the award (handed to him by Henry Kissinger) - we and you did succeed in contributing to the controversy surrounding the ceremony. At our demonstration outside the hotel, we spoke to Indonesian and other media. We learned that Indonesian students were offered $100 to attend the ceremony. We're also told that the Indonesians blamed the churches under siege, Human Rights Watch and ETAN for the controversy. All we did - with your help - was respond to calls for support from Indonesia to highlight President SBY's abysmal record.
We are now writing to ask you support another appeal from the region. This time our petition supports Audryne Karma's demand that President SBY unconditionally free her father and other West Papuan political prisoners.
