Papua Governor Lukas Enembe has allocated Rp 100 billion (US$8.4 million) in the 2014 fiscal year for people’s housing in Papua. The development project has been handed over to the Papua Indigenous Entrepreneurs Chamber (KAPP).

“The Papua provincial administration has set aside Rp 100 billion in the 2014 budget year for people’s housing, especially for native Papuans, as a form of partiality toward native Papuans,” Lukas said during the first KAPP workshop, which was recently held in Jakarta.

Lukas has also planned to build 15,000 homes during his tenure.

Meanwhile, KAPP chairman John Haluk expressed his appreciation for Lukas’ policy. “The KAPP appreciates it and will carry out the project properly. This is a form of trust that should be completely implemented,” he said, adding that the homes would be built in the traditional style.
