Two French journalists, Valentine Bourrat and Thomas Charles Dandois, who have been sentenced to two months and fifteen days in jail by the Papua district court, will leave jail on Monday next week, as their sentences are considered to have started on their first day in custody.

The journalists have been in the custody of the immigration agency since Aug. 14. Therefore, in line with the verdict, they will leave the agency’s detention center on Oct. 27.

Bourrat and Dandois were charged with violating the Immigration Law after proving unable to show permits to conduct journalistic activities in Papua when interviewing Papuan activist Forkorus Yaboisembut.

Prosecutor Sukanda stated that he accepted the verdict.

Thomas said he too accepted the verdict, and that all he wanted to do now was to go home and see his twins, Noah and Simon. In tones of relief, Valentine added that she could use a day off after having undergone a series of trial hearings.
