The central government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), will repair 250 uninhabitable houses in the provinces of Papua and West Papua. In the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) program, or often known as the house renovation program, the government budgets renovation costs of up to Rp 40 million per unit.
“We have a Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program to improve the quality of uninhabitable houses to become liveable.
The distribution of the aid is spread throughout Indonesia, including in West Papua,” said Director General of Housing at the PUPR Ministry, Iwan Suprijanto in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/7/2022) yesterday, as reported by Fajarpapua.com. According to Iwan, the BSPS Program involves local governments and communities as beneficiaries to build houses independently with stimulant funds from the government. This is carried out to realize liveable houses both in terms of building resilience, building area, sanitation, and availability of drinking water.
“The state is responsible for protecting the entire Indonesian nation through the implementation of housing and settlement areas so that people can live in decent and affordable houses throughout Indonesia,” he said. Iwan also stated that the condition of the environment must also be ensured to really remain in a healthy, safe, harmonious, and sustainable condition.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Papua II Housing Provision Agency (P2P), Yance Pabisa, said that the Budget Implementation List (DIPA) for Fiscal Year 2022 regarding Self-Help Housing and Public and Commercial Houses (RUK) at the Balai Papua II Housing Provision Work Unit stated that 250 units of public houses will receive the BSPS Program. The amount of assistance varies, starting from Rp. 23.5 million for the mainland Papua region, and Rp. 40 million for the mountainous Papua region.
Yance said that the target of 200 housing units for the BSPS Program recipients would be in five districts, namely Teluk Wondama Regency 40 units, Teluk Bintuni Regency 40 units, South Manokwari Regency 40 units, Tambrauw Regency 40 units, and Maybrat Regency 40 units.
The BSPS program is not only carried out by the government this year. Previously, the Ministry of PUPR, through the Director General of Housing also distributed housing renovation assistance in West Papua of as many as 4,000 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) in the province. Based on available data, the total housing renovation assistance in West Papua Province is 4,000 units consisting of 500 units for New House Development and 3,500 units for Home Improvement in 13 locations, namely 12 regencies and 1 city.
The distribution map for BSPS in West Papua is found in Raja Ampat Regency (30 units), Tambrauw Regency (165 units), Manokwari Regency (590 units), Arfak Mountains Regency (73 units), South Manokwari Regency (100 units), Teluk Bintuni Regency (279 units), Teluk Wondama Regency (250 units), Kaimana Regency (181), Fakfak Regency (270 units), South Sorong Regency (90 units), Maybrat Regency (120 units), Sorong Regency (670 units), and Sorong City (565 Units).
